It has been 38 years since the English Language Society was set up in our school, through these years improvements have been made in various areas to improve the quality of the activities during the Saturday activity day. The objectives of the society are listed below: This year, we have altogether 70 members. We usually conduct our weekly activities from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. During our activities, the members are encouraged to speak in English. Members are group into three sections. They are Educational Section, Recreational Section and Arts Section. Each section has a leader and twenty over members to conduct the activities during the lesson. During the particular time of educational lesson, we have various kinds of educational programmes pertaining to English. These comprise of quizzes, crossword puzzles and sketches. The members of this section are responsible for conducting the lesson. It is not all work and no play. To make learning more interesting, Our Recreational Section will organize some games once in a fortnight. The programmes serve as a form of recreation and build closer rapport among the members. We will also have a whole day of RS time annually. The members of this section are in charge of these. As for the Arts section, all members are responsible to design and make contact cards, contact books, birthday cards and others. All members are also in charge of the distribution of the contact cards to inform the members of the assembly. Besides, our society also takes part in organizing the Trilingual Elocution Contest. The Chinese Language Society, Malay Language Society will take turns to organizing Trilingual Elocution Contest every year. Furthermore, our society has also organized the English Singing Contest and English Drama Contest with the English Department. Our society has been also in-charge of the English Day to promote the interest of English language among the students since year 2003. This has provided the students an English speaking environment and through this way, the spoken English of students can be improved. We have broadcast during the English Day on every Tuesday and also, the English world on every Thursday since year 2004. Through the broadcast, we can remind students to speak in English. People learn from mistakes”, so we encourage students to speak in English and need not feel ashamed even tough they have made any mistakes. Last but not least, we hope that the English Day will be carried out successfully and all the best to the English Language Society.
